I performed Neurotica for Nadadada in 2002. During the performance, I rocked back and forth in a rocking chair and crocheted a chain of blood red yarn while listening to pre-recorded audio. In this piece, I came to view performance as a means of creating lessons in futility. These lessons in futility are all based on the act of taking an ordinary set of actions and repeating them to the point where they become meditational, transcending the specific actions themselves. By falling into a trance like state, I can easily use performance art to meditate on life itself. The performance then becomes an almost spiritual enactment, allowing me to further understand my existence in this reality. |
