The Reception is another in my series of works examining the nature of the art opening reception as an event unto itself. It was created for the New Media Show at Chesterfield Arts from April 18 - June 21, 2008. Video of the opening reception on Friday, April 18 was aired live during the reception and then shown repeatedly through the duration of the show. The footage was recorded to VHS so that it would show signs of wear as the tape was played over and over. This is meant to reflect upon both the nature of the gallery scene and how our memories of the reception fade, as all memories do. Due to the ever-changing nature of the gallery, art shows are constantly lost to time as new exhibitions come and go.
